Which Treatment Center Do I Choose?
Treatment centers number over 14,500 in the United States. These facilities provide detox and counseling and other services. How does one find a center for a loved one? Our clients have shared their experiences, and they are as follows.
1. The Internet – Most treatment centers have a web presence. Many have beautiful pictures that represent their facilities. The building is one facet of the treatment experience. Look beyond the amenities, treatment’s focus is on healing.
2. Insurance – Your network carrier will provide a list of facilities.
This is a start in finding the appropriate fit for your loved one. Call and speak to the centers. Find out what services they provide.
3. Marketing – Have you seen billboards advertising treatment? Television commercials are advertising for treatment centers. Do your research, read the reviews. Another option is to visit the facility.
4. (WOM Marketing) Word of Mouth – Clients come to us with a treatment center in mind. Someone else referred them to the center. Be careful; what worked for them may not work for you.
What to Consider?
These are some of the factors that we use in selecting a treatment center.
1. Location – Many times our clients are from the Florida Panhandle. We prefer to get them out of the local area. Another factor is if they have been distributing any substances. We feel that it is safer to get them out of the local area. Some conditions dictate that we keep the client local. One such case will be if the client has small children.
2. Clients Interests – Some treatment centers offer specialized programs. Specialized programs include; wilderness treatment, collegiate treatment, the list goes on. Fitting a client to a treatment center is a plus.
3. Age Specific – Several treatment centers provide age specific treatment. Age-specific could include adolescent treatment. Another option is for clients age 55 and older.
4. Gender Specific – We encourage gender-specific treatment, if possible. Treatment is a time to work on yourself without any distractions. Gender-specific treatment eliminates distractions.
5. Dual Diagnosis – Many clients have other issues besides addiction. It is critical to find a facility that handles those needs. Does the facility have a psychiatrist on staff?
6. Detoxification – Does the facility provide a safe medical detox? Is the detox center in the same location as the treatment facility?
7. Cost – Treatment can be expensive. What are you paying for? In many cases, you are paying for special programming. Programs like equine therapy provide value for some. Is this program needed? For some, it may be helpful.
We value the services that treatment provides. Treatment selection is important. Clients may have one chance to get help; we want to make it the right fit. If you or a loved one needs help, give us a call at 1-800-817-0951.
